Assistant Professor

Amanda Porter is an Assistant Professor at the VU University Amsterdam, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. She holds a PhD in Organizational Communication from the University of Colorado at Boulder and an MA in Organizational Communication from the University of Texas at Austin.

Her research examines how organizations cross boundaries to collaborate in response to complex social problems. She is particularly interested in understanding how new technologies can support novel, multi-stakeholder, and problem-centered forms of organizing. Amanda is currently working on two projects related to these themes. One project examines how a newly formed cross-sector collaboration uses crowdsourcing for co-creation of innovations to solve ocean pollution. Another project investigates how organizations in the Netherlands cultural heritage sector use crowdfunding to finance projects, to understand the organizational implications of the shift from institutional to crowd-based support.
