Department of Accounting/ARCA

emptyDear reader,

Groot, Tom (2)Welcome to the department of Accounting. Our department is a medium sized group of around 40 academics (26 fte). We are active in areas like bookkeeping, financial accounting, management accounting, management control, and corporate law.

Our teaching is in all FEWEB’s bachelor programmes, as well as in the master programmes Business Administration and Accounting & Control. Our department is especially responsible for the MSc programme Accounting & Control, which is offered both as a full-time and and part-time programme. The full-time programme prepares students for professional and executive positions in the finance and accounting area of commercial, non-profit and governmental organizations. The parttime programme combines the MSc Accounting and Control with the postgraduate Certified Public Accountant (CPA) programme. See ‘Education’ for more information on our programmes.

Our research covers a large diversity of subjects in accounting, auditing and law. Some of the main topics are the development of financial reporting frameworks and practices, the use of information for controlling organizations and alliances, and the identification and measurement of audit quality. Since 1998, our research is concentrated in the Amsterdam Research Center in Accounting (ARCA). In ARCA, we conduct high quality fundamental research as well as applied research. We aim to publish our results in the main peer-reviewed international journals. At the same time, we also reach out to the business community in communicating our research findings in executive programmes and in professional journals. ARCA also organizes a research seminar series which is also open to colleagues from other departments and institutions. More information on our research can be found in the ‘Research’ option.

If you need more information, please feel free to contact us by calling our management assistant Mrs. Patrizia Abinta (phone number +31 20 598 6040) or by sending an email to l.m.abinta@vu.nl.

Kind regards,

Tom Groot
